| | Hello Highland View Families! Happy February! As usual, there's a lot going on in Highland View-land, so I've tried to narrow it down to just the 7 most important things. Without further ado, and in no particular order: 1) What a great Neon Dance Party! Thanks so much to everyone involved and everyone who helped make it a success. The kids loved it so much! 2) Read Me a Story Night is tomorrow (Friday 2/10, 6:00-7:30) and it's always a good time too--just a little quieter than the dance party. Remember, students can wear their pajamas to school on Friday and bring slippers to wear in school (but also bring shoes to wear for any outside or gym time, and leave stuffed animals and blankets at home!) There'll be reading-related crafts, and cookies and milk will be served to enjoy as a little bedtime-story snack too! 3) The next PTO meeting is Monday 2/13, and it looks like a good one! Last meeting Mrs. D'Acquisto and Mrs. Weber both won the attendance prize of a Learning Store gift card. I wonder if there'll be a new winner for February? The teacher whose class has the most parents in attendance (minimum 3) gets a $25 gift card. Child care will, as always, be available! 4) Speaking of child care, parent-teacher conferences are coming up again soon (2/21) which means it's time for the PTO's conference child care. It's great to be able to save parents the work of finding a baby sitter for a 15 minute conference, but we need grown ups to stick around at school and help out. Make a difference by signing up here for a shift or two! 5) Speaking of conferences, one other PTO service to our school is providing dinner to the teachers who work through the night. Please (please!) sign up here if you can help with any of the supplies needed that night! 6) Get Scientific! Highland View's second annual STEMfest is coming up on March 24th, and everyone is invited to join in! Students can display a project, either individually or as a group, that connects to any of the STEM categories (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). In addition to prizes for every participant, students doing a project can choose to announce their project in morning announcements, and have their name displayed around the school. All students, and not just the ones that did projects, are invited to join in on March 24th, to see what their classmates did and also do some cool STEM demonstrations and activities! Look for a registration form and flyer in Friday's take-home folder. 7) Finally: Cheers for Education! The Greendale Education Foundation's primary fundraiser for the year is Friday 2/24. Join in for an evening of wine and food tasting and pairings, music, prizes, and fun. (There's a beer room too!) The event's grown-ups only (21+) and tickets are available online here. The Greendale Education Foundation is VERY supportive of Highland View, so please take this opportunity to support them in return. Thanks everyone! Happy Valentine's Day next week! Tell someone you love them! Aleks Skibicki | | | | | |
