Highland View PTO:  March Madness!  March Gladness!

What day loves to be in parades?
March Fourth!  (March forth!)

Hello Highland View Families!

March is going to be moving at Highland View.  Here's an early preview of what you'll need to know to stay up-to-date and on-the-ball!

1)  STEMfest March 24th, 6:00-7:30 PM!  There's still time to turn in STEMfest registration forms.  It's a great time, and the kids love sharing something fun related to Science, Math, Engineering, or Technology.  So far, Highland View students have announced projects ranging from robots to slime to volcanoes.  A project can be anything related to Science, Engineering, Technology, or Math.  The sky is the limit--and since this is STEMfest, there's no good reason to stop at the sky either--blast right off into space with your ideas!  If you're looking for some inspiration, here are some ideas to get you started! And remember, every student who has a project gets a prize.

2)  STEMfest (part 2)  In addition to the students' projects, STEMfest will also have some demonstrations and activities for anyone to try out--all students are welcome that night, not just students that did projects.  It's a great chance for everyone to have some STEM-fun!  Last year we had:

(S)cience:  Make your own silly putty
(T)echnology:  "Program your friend like a computer" paper game.
(E)ngineering:  Play-Doh electrical circuits
(M)ath:  Math dice games, and build an abacus

This year, we'll have an entire engineering area with design briefs for students to complete.  But S, T, and M could have new activities too.  Anyone have ideas?  It has to be something that 100+ kids could do over the course of 1.5 hours.  Reply to this email with your suggestions.

Also, if you'll be at STEMfest that night, we'll need help supervising and running the activity stations.  Sign up here to be a part of the action!

3)  Club Pictures!  March 13th (Monday), will be club/organization picture day at Highland View.  We traditionally do:  Service Club, Band, 4th and 5th Grade Orchestras, Choir, Battle of the Books, and new this year we're adding the Student Ambassadors.  If your student is in one of those groups, they'll be getting their picture taken, so get their picture clothes and picture hair ready.

4)  Speaking of March 13th:  that's our March PTO meeting date.

5)  March 14th, the very next day, is our March "Dine Out for Highland View" night at Chik-fil-A. The flyer to bring with you will be coming home the Friday before that, but when you're planning your meals for that week--skip Tuesday.

There's more to March, but I think that's enough for now.  See you at school!

Highland View PTO:  Ooops!  And good news!

What did George Washington call his false teeth?
Presi-dentures!

Hello Highland View Families!

An "Oops!" and some good news for everyone:

1)  The oops:  I see I wrote "Thursday February 21st" as conference day in the last email when I was asking for help watching kids during conferences.  The date was right (2/21) but the day was wrong--That's a TUESDAY not a Thursday.  Sorry for any confusion!  The link to help serve our Highland View Community is here for anyone who can:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-conference1

2)  The good news:  If you looked closely at your yearbook order form, you saw it was due tomorrow (2/20).  Since no one will be around to collect them until Wednesday, if you didn't get it to school last week, you can have until Wednesday to turn it in!  Hooray!

3)  There's still time to mix and mingle at the Greendale Education Foundation's "Cheers to Education" wine and food tasting event this Friday.  Get tickets here: https://search.seatyourself.biz/webstore/webstore.html?d=1&domain=greendalefoundation

Happy President's Day!

Aleks

Highland View PTO:  Lucky 7's! Read all about it!

What do snakes give each other for valentines?
Usually just a little hug and hiss!
View this email in your browser

Hello Highland View Families!

Happy February!  As usual, there's a lot going on in Highland View-land, so I've tried to narrow it down to just the 7 most important things.  Without further ado, and in no particular order:

1)  What a great Neon Dance Party!  Thanks so much to everyone involved and everyone who helped make it a success.  The kids loved it so much!

2)  Read Me a Story Night is tomorrow (Friday 2/10, 6:00-7:30) and it's always a good time too--just a little quieter than the dance party.  Remember, students can wear their pajamas to school on Friday and bring slippers to wear in school (but also bring shoes to wear for any outside or gym time, and leave stuffed animals and blankets at home!)  There'll be reading-related crafts, and cookies and milk will be served to enjoy as a little bedtime-story snack too!

3)  The next PTO meeting is Monday 2/13, and it looks like a good one!  Last meeting Mrs. D'Acquisto and Mrs. Weber both won the attendance prize of a Learning Store gift card.  I wonder if there'll be a new winner for February?  The teacher whose class has the most parents in attendance (minimum 3) gets a $25 gift card.  Child care will, as always, be available!

4)  Speaking of child care, parent-teacher conferences are coming up again soon (2/21) which means it's time for the PTO's conference child care.  It's great to be able to save parents the work of finding a baby sitter for a 15 minute conference, but we need grown ups to stick around at school and help out.  Make a difference by signing up here for a shift or two!

5)  Speaking of conferences, one other PTO service to our school is providing dinner to the teachers who work through the night.  Please (please!) sign up here if you can help with any of the supplies needed that night!

6)  Get Scientific!  Highland View's second annual STEMfest is coming up on March 24th, and everyone is invited to join in!  Students can display a project, either individually or as a group, that connects to any of the STEM categories (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math).  In addition to prizes for every participant, students doing a project can choose to announce their project in morning announcements, and have their name displayed around the school.  All students, and not just the ones that did projects, are invited to join in on March 24th, to see what their classmates did and also do some cool STEM demonstrations and activities!  Look for a registration form and flyer in Friday's take-home folder.

7)  Finally:  Cheers for Education!  The Greendale Education Foundation's primary fundraiser for the year is Friday 2/24.  Join in for an evening of wine and food tasting and pairings, music, prizes, and fun.  (There's a beer room too!)  The event's grown-ups only (21+) and tickets are available online here.  The Greendale Education Foundation is VERY supportive of Highland View, so please take this opportunity to support them in return.

Thanks everyone!  Happy Valentine's Day next week!  Tell someone you love them!
