Highland View PTO:  It's Appreciation Time!

Why do Highland View teachers have to wear sunglasses?
Because the students are so bright!

Hello Highland View Families!

This one's short.  A thanks, a correction, and a chance to join in appreciating our teachers!

1)  Appreciation time!  It's almost time for Highland View to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week.  We'll be celebrating the week of May 8-12.  We can use your help!  Check out the sign up page here and see how you can hit a home run for our teachers!

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b044dabac292-teacher

2)  A thanks.  Speaking of appreciation:  Thanks to everyone who bought garden and yard stuff during the Greendale Education Foundation Mulch Madness event on Saturday.  Despite the weather it was a big success, and will definitely help provide grants and scholarships to Greendale students, schools, and staff.

3)  A correction.  The May Panther Paws fitness form will be sent out to students on Monday.  Remember, fill in a pawprint for every 30 minutes of exercise or every 3 servings of fruits or vegetables your student gets, and when you fill all the paws in turn it back in to school.  At the end of the month every student who turns their sheet in gets a prize, and if the school collects 300 turned in sheets, then everyone gets a prize on Olympic day!

Have a great night!

Aleks

Highland View PTO:  Fun is in the air!

What's a gorilla's favorite month of the year?
Ape-ril!

Hello Highland View Families!

April's almost over, but the fun sure isn't.  Here are a few things you might want to know about!

1)  Our May night to "Dine Out for Highland View" is set for Thursday May 11th, from 4-7PM at the Panther Pub in downtown Greendale.  Save the date--it's our last dine-out date for the year!  Join friends and enjoy great food and support Highland View at the same time.  10% of all sales will go right back to our school!

2)  If you want to get a chance to shop at the Greendale Kids Resale event before everyone else does, there's still time to sign up to volunteer this Saturday!  People signed up to volunteer on Saturday get to shop on Friday! (No one else does, so all the good stuff will be there just for you.)  Contact Donna Ouellette for details:  donnao@wi.rr.com

3)  Speaking of Saturday, while one parent is shopping for the indoors at the resale event, the rest of the family can head to Bluemels on Loomis and shop for the outside.  This Saturday, April 29th, any garden materials you purchase at Bluemels will send 10% of your purchase price back to the Greendale Education Foundation (which sends 100% of that back to our schools!)

4)  Finally:  Do you know someone that's been helpful to Highland View?  Monday is the last day to turn in nominations for the Bruce Paprocki Distinguished Volunteer Award.  Just send a letter with that person's name, telling us why you think they should be recognized as Highland View's distinguished volunteer for 2016-2017, and that's all there is to it.  All nominees are recognized at a ceremony, and the award winner has their name added to a plaque at school.

Have a great day!

Aleks Skibicki

Highland View PTO: Great Opportunity and Urgent Yearbook Need

What do trees wear to pool parties?
Swimming trunks!

Hello Highland View Families!

Two quick spring break notes:

1)  Childrens' Resale Event Opportunity  As a lot of you know, April 29th is the Greendale Entertainment Association's Spring Children's Resale Event.  That's not the opportunity I want to tell you about though--I want to tell you about a special opportunity to shop the resale event BEFORE everyone else gets to!  The GEA is looking for (super needs!) volunteers to help out on Saturday the 29th.  The perk to being a volunteer is that you get to shop the resale PRE-sale on Friday!  So, if you're free for some time on Saturday, please email Donna Ouellette at donnao@wi.rr.com and she'll get you all set up.

2)  Fotografia Espanol por favor?  Do you have any pictures from Spanish class?  The yearbook needs them!  Please let me know if you can help make our yearbook better by sharing some memories too.  If you've ever taken a picture related to Spanish class at Highland View, we can use it!

That's all for now, have a great night!

Aleks

Highland View PTO:  We're springing into spring!  Big things are coming up!

Why is everyone so tired at the beginning of April?
Because they just finished a 31-day march!

Hello Highland View Families!

Can you believe we're getting close to the end of the year already?  But don't worry--that's not slowing us down one bit!  Here's what you need to know about the PTO this week:

1)  Our April meeting is this Monday, April 10th  Not only do we have our regularly scheduled PTO goodness (High Interest Day, our May Heath Activity, and Teacher Appreciation Week are coming up quickly...) but the new Greendale Superintendent of Schools and several Greendale School Board members are coming by to share what's going on with them and to hear from us.  As always, the classroom with the most people in attendance (minimum 3) will win a gift card to the Learning Store!

2)  Dine Out for Highland View Night:  Tuesday April 11th at Daddy Yo's!  Honestly, this may be my favorite favorite favorite Dine Out for Highland View Night.  Take a break from playing outside for a few minutes (or stop in after the district string concert!) and join us at Daddy Yo's for a make-your-own Fro-Yo sundae.  That night Highland View will receive 10% of the sales.  Here's the flyer that'll be heading home in take home folders tonight.

3)  Serious business.   Ok everyone.  This is serious.  The PTO does a lot at Highland View.  And, we're excited to have so many awesome parents that are involved in the things we do.

If you've ever thought about taking a more active role, we need you now.  A couple of PTO officers won't be returning to their roles next year (I'll miss it sooooo much!) and we really need people to step into leadership roles.  If you're considering it, don't wait for someone else to step up and steal this opportunity from you.  It can be the experience of a lifetime, for you and your student.  You deserve it.

You can email me at hvpto@hvpto.org .  It is an amazing experience to be involved in a leadership role in the things the PTO does.  You don't have to be a long-time parent at the school (It was my 2nd year at Highland View when I started as treasurer!) and you don't need prior PTO experience (I had attended, I believe, 3 PTO meetings before becoming treasurer!)

Please.  If you've considered getting involved in the PTO, this is a great way to do it.  Email, and we can talk more.

4)  The Bruce Paprocki Distinguished Volunteer Award We're running out of time to submit nominations for the Bruce Paprocki Distinguished Volunteer Award for 2016-2017!  Each year, one volunteer is selected to be recognized as the Distinguished Volunteer for that year and will have their name added to a plaque displayed at school.  To nominate someone you think should be recognized, simply send a letter to any member of the PTO executive board, or to Mrs. Flater, stating the name of the person you are nominating, and the reasons for your choice.  The winner, and all nominees, will be announced at the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast later this year.

5)  Get your steps on!  Since the weather's going to be extra nice this weekend, you can join in the American Public Health Week "Billion Steps Challenge!"  It's not a fundraiser or anything like that, they're just hoping to get people walking.  The Greendale Health Department has started a team here,  (just search for "Greendale") and you can join up and either sync up a fitbit-style device if you have one, or just manually enter your walking steps for this weekend.  Let's see if we can help America take a BILLION steps!

6)  As long as you're walking around and getting active, you can also help the Greendale Health Department by searching for opportunities to make active choices!  Is there an opportunity to walk somewhere instead of driving?  Maybe you know a place where people can take the "longcut" instead of a shortcut?  If you or your students find a place in Greendale where a person can choose to be more active, follow the instructions here to learn how your student can design a sign that may be posted encouraging people to make the active choice you discovered!

7)  Save the Date!  June 9th School's Out!  The evening of June 9th, the Greendale Education Foundation and the Village of Greendale would like to invite you to the first ever School's Out! celebration.  From 4:00 - 9:00PM, enjoy food and refreshments, crafts, games, face painting, a bike safety clinic, and other activities on Broad Street, and wrap up the night with an outdoor showing of the 2016 The Jungle Book movie at dusk.

That's all for now!  See you Monday,

Aleks Skibicki
