Highland View PTO:  We're springing into spring!  Big things are coming up!

Why is everyone so tired at the beginning of April?
Because they just finished a 31-day march!

Hello Highland View Families!

Can you believe we're getting close to the end of the year already?  But don't worry--that's not slowing us down one bit!  Here's what you need to know about the PTO this week:

1)  Our April meeting is this Monday, April 10th  Not only do we have our regularly scheduled PTO goodness (High Interest Day, our May Heath Activity, and Teacher Appreciation Week are coming up quickly...) but the new Greendale Superintendent of Schools and several Greendale School Board members are coming by to share what's going on with them and to hear from us.  As always, the classroom with the most people in attendance (minimum 3) will win a gift card to the Learning Store!

2)  Dine Out for Highland View Night:  Tuesday April 11th at Daddy Yo's!  Honestly, this may be my favorite favorite favorite Dine Out for Highland View Night.  Take a break from playing outside for a few minutes (or stop in after the district string concert!) and join us at Daddy Yo's for a make-your-own Fro-Yo sundae.  That night Highland View will receive 10% of the sales.  Here's the flyer that'll be heading home in take home folders tonight.

3)  Serious business.   Ok everyone.  This is serious.  The PTO does a lot at Highland View.  And, we're excited to have so many awesome parents that are involved in the things we do.

If you've ever thought about taking a more active role, we need you now.  A couple of PTO officers won't be returning to their roles next year (I'll miss it sooooo much!) and we really need people to step into leadership roles.  If you're considering it, don't wait for someone else to step up and steal this opportunity from you.  It can be the experience of a lifetime, for you and your student.  You deserve it.

You can email me at hvpto@hvpto.org .  It is an amazing experience to be involved in a leadership role in the things the PTO does.  You don't have to be a long-time parent at the school (It was my 2nd year at Highland View when I started as treasurer!) and you don't need prior PTO experience (I had attended, I believe, 3 PTO meetings before becoming treasurer!)

Please.  If you've considered getting involved in the PTO, this is a great way to do it.  Email, and we can talk more.

4)  The Bruce Paprocki Distinguished Volunteer Award We're running out of time to submit nominations for the Bruce Paprocki Distinguished Volunteer Award for 2016-2017!  Each year, one volunteer is selected to be recognized as the Distinguished Volunteer for that year and will have their name added to a plaque displayed at school.  To nominate someone you think should be recognized, simply send a letter to any member of the PTO executive board, or to Mrs. Flater, stating the name of the person you are nominating, and the reasons for your choice.  The winner, and all nominees, will be announced at the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast later this year.

5)  Get your steps on!  Since the weather's going to be extra nice this weekend, you can join in the American Public Health Week "Billion Steps Challenge!"  It's not a fundraiser or anything like that, they're just hoping to get people walking.  The Greendale Health Department has started a team here,  (just search for "Greendale") and you can join up and either sync up a fitbit-style device if you have one, or just manually enter your walking steps for this weekend.  Let's see if we can help America take a BILLION steps!

6)  As long as you're walking around and getting active, you can also help the Greendale Health Department by searching for opportunities to make active choices!  Is there an opportunity to walk somewhere instead of driving?  Maybe you know a place where people can take the "longcut" instead of a shortcut?  If you or your students find a place in Greendale where a person can choose to be more active, follow the instructions here to learn how your student can design a sign that may be posted encouraging people to make the active choice you discovered!

7)  Save the Date!  June 9th School's Out!  The evening of June 9th, the Greendale Education Foundation and the Village of Greendale would like to invite you to the first ever School's Out! celebration.  From 4:00 - 9:00PM, enjoy food and refreshments, crafts, games, face painting, a bike safety clinic, and other activities on Broad Street, and wrap up the night with an outdoor showing of the 2016 The Jungle Book movie at dusk.

That's all for now!  See you Monday,

Aleks Skibicki
