Hello Highland View Families!

Thanks so much to everyone that came to our October meeting on Monday.  I cannot believe how much we have going on this month!  Here's a quick recap, as well as a new feature for you!

1)  Phone books will be printed next week, with the goal of coming home by next week Friday.   Woohoo!

2)  Safe-Respectful-Responsible Highland View T-Shirts:  Our order is in to the printer.  So they'll be here just as soon as they can slap ink on shirts!  If you ordered extra shirts, make sure you send money to school marked "Extra PBIS Shirts" Checks can be made to Highland View PTO.  Remember, the first shirt was free, and additional shirts were $10 each.

3)  November All The World Event BIG CHANGE!  Our 2016 All the World Event was originally scheduled for 11/18.  In order to give everyone a little time to recover from conferences (11/17) we're moving the date to 12/9.  So if you've already marked your calendars for November--be sure to move it!  Same bat-station, same bat-show, just a different bat-time!

4)  Fun Run Volunteers!  If you signed up for the Fun Run on 10/23, but would rather not actually run, do I have news for you!  You can still be a part.  We're always looking for people to help direct runners/walkers, direct traffic, sell raffle tickets, etc.  Just sign up here in the space listed for the Fun Run and I'll get in touch about details.

5)  Family Dinner Night:  It's coming up soon (10/28) !  Make sure to get your pre-order form in before 10/18.  The price is $5 per family ahead-of-time or $10 per family at the door.  That includes spaghetti dinner, a (new!) magic show and table-side performances, and some great time spent with other great Highland View Families.

Kristin can still use some volunteers to help at the dinner.  Sign up for that here!  And be sure to take lots of pictures!  We'll need them for the yearbook!

6)  Book Fair!  The Fall Book Fair is the week of 10/24-28th.  The kids love it, and it helps us get extra books for our teachers to keep restocking their libraries.  BUT, we can't do it without help!  Sign up here when you can.  It's super fun!

7)  Community Visioning Meeting:  It's being held by the School District at 6:30 on October 27th at Greendale High School in the Multi-Purpose-Room.  That's when the District is going to get OUR input on starting its next 5-year strategic plan.  What is good about Greendale Schools?  What should we focus on?  What should we strive to improve?  Let them know!

And our new feature:
Unsung heroes of Highland View

Each month, I'd like to highlight a couple of the volunteer opportunities that go on in the background of Highland View and help make the school as special as it is.  These aren't for specific events that get all the publicity, but things volunteers can do throughout the year and might not even be noticed if you're not looking.

In October, I'd like to recognize two volunteer opportunities that fit that bill:

1)  The Publishing Center.  Did you know our school has hundreds of published authors?  We do!  Volunteers take kids' stories, type them up and bind them into real books so our students can have a real published work of their very own.  The publishing center can always use extra typists--it just takes a few minutes and you can do it whenever you have free time!  For more information/questions or to jump right in, please email Lori Hanlon at lorihanlon1@yahoo.com .

2)  The Yearbook!  We have an awesome yearbook.  It comes from having awesome yearbook staff and families that love to take pictures.  All year long yearbook volunteers will take pictures, and arrange pages and document the Highland View year so we have a book to be proud of.  The great thing about being on the yearbook staff is that you get to do your work on your time.  You can arrange a page right from your home computer, and take pictures whenever you happen to be at school (even with your phone nowadays!)  Want to be a part?  Sign up in the Yearbook area here!

Thanks (as always!) for reading this far.  You are AMAZING!  (Seriously.)
