Hello Highland View Families!

As we all spring forward into March, there's a lot going on at Highland View!  All of it needs your enjoyment, and some of it (really desperately) needs your help!  Here's what's going on!

1)  Yearbook!  There's a lot of yearbook action happening right now!
  • Monday 3/13 is club picture day.  We'll be taking pictures for Service Club, Battle of the Books, Ambassadors, 4th and 5th grade Orchestras, Band, and Choir.  If your student is in any of those groups, please make sure they're dressed as you want them to be remembered!
  • Pictures!  Take them!  The yearbook committee loves having lots of pictures to choose from for the yearbook.  Have you been at school and took some pictures this year?  Are you a teacher with pictures you think families would like to remember?  Do you just want to give your student more chances to be in the yearbook?  Let me know and we'll get those out to the appropriate yearbook-builder!
2)  STEMfest!  Wowee zowee!  We have over 80 students showing off more than 50 projects at STEMfest this year, and we have some great activities and fun stuff planned for everyone to participate in and have fun with too.  BUT, we need help to get it all to happen.  If you're going to be at STEMfest, please, (SUPER PLEASE!) sign up to help at one of our activity areas and have some STEMfest STEMfun with the kids.  Sign up right here.

3)  Reading Buddies!  Most of you are familiar with the Highland View Reading Buddies program--volunteers, usually senior citizens, come in and read with our younger students on Thursday mornings.  It's a great memory maker for the kids and their buddies.  Dee Dixon who coordinates the Reading Buddies program in Greendale, asked me to send the call out for volunteers, since they're running low on buddies.  Does anyone know a grandma or grandpa that would like to spend some amazing quality time with our growing readers?  Email Dee Dixon at ddixon629@gmail.com .

4)  It's dinner time!  Our March "Dine Out for Highand View Night" is just around the corner!  This Tuesday, bring the flyer that went home on Friday to Chik-fil-A in Greendale and 15% of your purchase will come back to the school.  A great dinner for a great cause.  If you don't have the flyer, there's one online here.

5)  Book Fair!  Can you believe we have a STEM-fest and a BOOK-fair in the same week?  We do!  Students will have the chance to buy books and other school supplies before school, at lunch, and after school during the week of 3/20-3/24 and during STEMfest.  As always, we need cashiers and helpers and guess what?  You can see where you're needed and sign up right here!

6)  High Interest Day!  It's so interesting!  High Interest Day is rapidly approaching--it's in May, but the time goes faster than you'd think.  What is High Interest Day you ask?  I'm so glad you asked!  On HID, 3rd-5th graders are invited to spend the afternoon in different sessions working with grownups and learning or trying out various fun activities ranging from sports to science, to cooking to crafts.  It's a fantastic opportunity for the kids to expand their horizons, or dig a little deeper into something they're already interested in.

Here's why I'm bringing up HID:  Our coordinator of the last several years (Thanks!) has a son in 5th grade.  She won't be around next year to run that show, making this a very important year for someone to get involved and learn the ropes.  HID disappeared for a few years a while ago when no one was around to coordinate it.  I'd hate to see it gone again.  The current coordinator and her predecessor worked very hard to put together the resources to make it a straightforward task, so please let me know if you'd be interested in seeing what that role is all about and continuing to offer our Highland View students this awesome opportunity.

7)  Our next meeting!  Our March meeting is Monday. 6:00 in the Highland View Library as usual.  Last month Mrs. Weber's class (again!) had enough attendees to win the attendance award--will someone else be able to take home the prize this month?  In addition to everything above there's a lot more to discuss and keep in motion.  Be a part of all the action with the HV PTO!

I think that's enough for one email, don't you?  Thanks for reading this far--once again, you're the BEST!
