Highland View PTO:  What you need to know to know what you need!

Why is the letter "A" like a flower?
There's always a "B" nearby!

Hello Highland View Families!

Here's what went down tonight.  Hold on to your hats!

1)  RIF is coming up in April!  Help Christie give books to our Highland View students!  April 13th (the last day before break) we'll be giving every kiddo at Highland View a new book to bring home and keep.  Keeping everything moving smoothly can often use some extra hands and eyes.  If you like giving free stuff to kids, sign up here:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c49acaf2ba6f94-spring

2)  Save the date:  May 22nd!  That's Read and Roll day, when our K-3rd graders get to compete to see which readers are raddest!  It's a fun game kids play in the library answering trivia questions about books they've read in class and at home.  More details as the day gets closer!

3)  High Interest Day:  Do you have a job, talent, hobby, or interest that you think the kids at Highland View might want to try out? On High Interest Day, our 3-4-5th graders spend the afternoon learning and doing activities from various areas they might be interested in--from rockets to soccer to singing to sewing.  If you think you might have something to share, let us know!  HID will be May 12th, from after lunch to the end of the school day.

4)  Committees, committees, committees!  We are looking for voices in three new super cool committees.  Here's what they are!  In the next couple days we'll contact all committee members and they can decide how they want to move forward!  Parents and Staff are welcome on all committees, and physical meetings may not necessarily even be required in today's amazing internet age!
  • Nomination Committee  This committee will be coming up with a list of potential candidates for PTO offices next year and contacting the people on the list to talk about roles and needs and how we it could be a great fit!  Depending on how motivated they are, this committee could also branch out into the search for event coordinators for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Appreciation Committee  This committee will be charged with making sure the PTO has a solid plan to recognize and appreciate the people and organizations that support us through the year.  We came up with some solid ideas during the meeting, and would just need to put it in writing and actually get started on the appreciating.  Join this committee if you love to say "Thank You!"
  • Awards Committee  This committee will consider the nominations for the Bruce Paprocki Volunteer Appreciation Award, and the Highland View Alumni Scholarship.  Most likely this committee will only need to meet once, 1/2 hour before our May meeting, though scholarship applications and Paprocki Award nomination letters will be available for review before that.
Thanks for reading this far!  Keep being awesome!

Aleks
