Black History Month Trivia for February 26th!

Today’s question is another one that won’t be multiple-choice; you’ll have to figure out the answer on your own.  But I know you can do it!  Highland View students are super smart!  (Plus, if you look around the school, you just might find the answer!

Today’s trivia is about a particularly brave African American.  When he was all grown up, he was brave enough to fly on the space shuttle into space—the second African American astronaut ever.  But he wasn’t just brave as a grown up.  As a child, he loved to read.  But his library didn’t allow black children to check out books.  He refused to leave the library until they let him check out a book—even after the library called his parents, AND the police!  Today, that library is named after him.

Can you find the name of the African American astronaut who has a Library named after him for his bravery when he was just a student your age?

Your student can turn in his or her correct answer before school starts tomorrow in the box at the office.  Two lucky correct answers will be drawn and those students will receive family passes to the Milwaukee Art Museum!
